How to reduce an image file size on your iPhone and iPad

Using Image Size iOS app

For the purpose of this guide, I'm using the Image Size App to reduce photo sizes, but you can use any trusted app.

Launch the Image Size App on your iPhone.
Tap on the top left image icon and Allow Access to your photo library.
Select the photo you wish to reduce the size of and tap on Choose.
Now the app automatically reduces the photo file size. You can see the difference (1.37 MB → 302.64 KB).
Finally, tap Download to save the compressed photo in your Photo library.

Using Apple's Shortcuts app

Before we start with this process make sure that your iPhone or iPad is running iOS and that the Allow untrusted shortcuts setting is toggled on. If not you can do so by navigating to Settings → Shortcuts → Toggle ON Allow Untrusted Shortcuts.

Launch Shortcuts on your device and tap on the shortcut that you just added. This will ask you to access your photos library and tap 'Allow Access' on the pop-up.
Once you have allowed access, you can choose the image you wish to reduce the size of. Once you've made your selection, tap Done.
Choose the size that suits you the best and a share tab will appear. Tap 'Save' and the image will create a newly resized image.

You're done and you can now delete the earlier pictures.
